Third Time’s the Charm

Simmers Note: A friend of mine is testing out a challenge she’d eventually like to unleash on the world.  It’s called “Wishful Living” and the idea is to complete every Lifetime Wish, while “seeing” as much of the neighborhood as possible.  (Tentative test rules are here.  They may change as testing progresses.)

So this is Mavie Souhaitent.  Her name is a scrambling of “souhaitent de ma vie” which is French for “my life’s wish.”  It’s pronounced “Soo-wet-ay” but the hicks in Riverview, where Mavie suddenly finds herself on fine morning pronounce it “Soo-hay-tent.”

Mavie is Ambitious, Easily Excitable, Good, but she’s also a kleptomaniac and has a bit of an unlucky streak.  Her life’s greatest wish is to become the best DNA profiler the Riverview PD has ever scene.  That’s a pretty good LTW for an unlucky klepto, right?

She likes waffles, pop music, and the color red, too.

On her first day in Riverview, Mavie found these two hunks loitering on her front lawn.   Billy Caspian (hat, glasses) and Odin Crosby. 

She soon discovered that Billy likes to talk about himself A LOT and that Odin in no fun at all.

Nonetheless, she attempts to prepare lunch for them, because that’s what good hosts do.

*sigh*  She promptly sets fire to the oven.  And freaks out.  Lucky, this Cute Fireman rushes to Mavie’s aid.

Which was a very, very good thing because all Billy and Odin – such manly men – did was freak out right along side her!

Maybe it was the uniform, or maybe the life threatening experience, but Mavie is full of love for the Cute Fireman.  She even compliments the melodious sounds of the fire extinguisher at work.

???

Okay, Mavie.  That’s an odd one, but… okay. It seemed to work because Cute Fireman accepted her offer to stay and hang out.

It was good that he stayed, because her second attempt at cooking a meal (no longer lunch, by this time, but creeping onto early dinner) was an utter failure.

Luckily, Cute Fireman was still there and he put the fire out while Mavie freaked and Odin stood there like a lump.

A few minutes after the fire was out, a Not So Cute Fireman showed up on the scene, having been dispatched by the alarm.  He scolded Mavie for her irresponsibility and for failing to let them know someone was already there – and then he fined her.

A third attempt at dinner was in order, and this one was (blessedly) successful!  The four of them – Mavie, Billy, Odin & Cute Fireman – sat down to eat.

And then she shooed everyone off so she could try to clean up and get some rest before her first day of work.

By the end first day, Mavie was already thinking about a vacation.  Who knew that work was such hard work?

She was tired from staying up cleaning up ashes and dirty dishes from the night before, stressed from working a full 8 our day, and in general, she was NOT happy.

When she got home, she all but collapsed into bed and slept clear on until 8 p.m.

When woke up, she decided she’d better study some cooking, so that maybe she wouldn’t set her dinner on fire.

No such luck, Mavie.

Or… maybe it was lucky after all?  Cute Fireman returned and after he put out her fire, he hung around to chat and help her eat her dinner.  Mavie learns that he likes the same kind of music that she does.

Coincidence keeps throwing them together – although Mavie barely recognizes him out of his uniform.

They wind up up going to a movie and then out to dinner – all impromptu – and toast to the fact that their meal is not burnt.

A few nights later, she invites him over for dinner at her house.  Again, a non-burnt one.  As they eat, they chat about music and books, television and life.

Suddenly, Mavie stops chewing and listening long enough to say, “you know?  I don’t even know  your name!”
