The Sims Celebrates 10 Years…

… were you there?

I was, by a couple of months. I bought my first Sims game in May of 2000, when I bought a new Gateway computer after the tragic death of my old one.

Gateway had a ‘family game pack” including the Sims, Ages of Empires, some racing game, and… something else I forget.

My daughter was two months old at the time, and I can remember days sitting at the computer learning to play the Sims & Ages of Empires while holding her on my lap (and sometimes even breastfeeding her. Talk about multi-tasking!). She has literally grown up around this franchise.

Today, I have Sims 2, Sims 3 and Ages of Empires 3 on my latest computer. My daughter has been playing the two Sims games for a year and a half now. She likes Sims 3 the best. I bounce between Sims 2 and Sims 3, liking different things about both. We all play Ages.

I’m curious… if you’re reading this, what’s your Sims story? How’d you get here as a Simmer?

I’ve been playing for a long time as well – not that long, but close! I started sometime in 2001 or 2 with Sims 1, and before long I was hooked! Now I play Sims 2, and have toyed with the idea of Sims 3. I love the whole game, and with all the custom content, never get bored. I found the online communities fairly recently (it’s been 2 years, maybe), first with Sims 2 Community at MTS2, then venturing out to Yahoo groups and others. Now I maintain a blog at LJ for keeping track of various Sims related things, a blog at WordPress for my story, The Dipotere Curse, and a list site of Sims 2 custom content sites. A lot of sites for one little hobby!

Now a question for you…Do you mind if I ask what kind of computer you’re running? I’ve been thinking about upgrading to a computer that can handle both Sims 2 and 3 and would love some opinions. You can email me if you like!

I started playing in 2002. My sister bought the Sims 1 base game and one day I asked to play. I became hooked, and what was once her game became mine. I’ve owned all the games (the expansions, stuff packs) throughout all Sims 1, 2, and 3.
